How the generator decides

Controls are recorded as what is actually in place. Anything recommended for the substance that you leave unticked goes on the further action list, so the gap is on paper. The risk rating is yours: the generator suggests a starting severity from the hazard classification, and you set the likelihood from how the work is actually done.

Common questions

Where does the hazard data come from?
Hazard classifications come from the ECHA classification and labelling inventory and workplace exposure limits from HSE EH40/2005. Each substance record shows its sources and the date they were checked. The generator never invents hazard data; a product that is not in the index is entered from its own data sheet.
Is the finished document HSE approved?
No document is HSE approved. HSE does not approve assessments. The output follows the structure in HSE guidance and the COSHH Approved Code of Practice, and the employer must review it against the actual workplace before relying on it.
