Why keep a register
A client or an auditor asks which method statement covered a job, which revision was briefed, and who approved it. The register is the list that answers that without a search through email. It also shows which jobs of the same kind already have one, so the next is a duplicate and an edit rather than a fresh start.
What it holds
- The reference and the job, so a document can be found.
- The client and the location, so a register with several clients can be filtered.
- The number of steps and hazards, and the risk assessment it was written from.
- Who prepared, reviewed and approved it, editable in place.
- The date, the last review and the next review, with earlier revisions kept and printable.
Review dates
For a one off job the review date is the end of the job. For a method statement reused across jobs of the same kind, review it before each one and whenever the site, the people or the method change. Each line turns amber as its review approaches and red when it is due.
Your register is saved in this browser only. Backup writes a file you can restore on another device. Deleting an entry can be undone for a few seconds; after that it is gone.
