HSE's guidance for salons is clear on the basics: wear disposable non-latex gloves for every wet task including shampooing, dry hands properly, moisturise, and check skin regularly. These belong in every salon assessment as controls.
Bleach powder should be mixed away from the client area, ideally in a dust free formulation, and never with the face directly over the bowl. Peroxide at 12 per cent is corrosive to the eyes, so eye protection during mixing is reasonable.
Some keratin smoothing treatments release formaldehyde when heated. If you offer them, check the data sheet, and if formaldehyde is listed the treatment needs extraction and a separate assessment.
